PhD study programs

Basic information

Doctoral study is a third-cycle degree programme of higher education. The basic conditions of this form of study are regulated by Section 54 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on the amendment and supplementation of certain acts, as amended. The fundamental requirement for admission to doctoral study, pursuant to Section 56(3) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on the amendment and supplementation of certain acts, is higher education of the second degree.

  • Application deadline: 18 January 2026 (second round of the admissions process)

The admission procedure for doctoral study programmes is conducted in the form of a competitive selection process. The entrance examination (Section 57(3) of the Act) consists of a foreign language test (English, German, French, or Russian) and a subject-specific part. The form and framework content of the entrance examination will be specified in the Invitation to the Entrance Examination. Admission decisions are made by the Dean of FBERG TUKE based on the recommendation, or ranking of applicants, established by the admission committee.

Each applicant will be invited to the interview in writing.

The planned minimum number of doctoral students admitted to the external form of study: 10.

E-APPLICATION AND APPLICATION

A duly completed application for doctoral study, accompanied by the required prescribed documents, indicating the study programme and one dissertation topic selected from the list of published dissertation topics for the relevant study programme, together with the name of the supervisor (Section 54(5), (6)), may be submitted electronically via the IS MAIS e-application system or in written (paper) form.

Applicants who submit an e-application are also required to provide its paper version, which can be printed via the TUKE e-application applicant interface. The printed e-application or a standard paper application, together with all mandatory documents, must be delivered to the Department for Scientific-Research Activity and Education in III. Degree of Study.
Applicants are required to state in the application details of all previous and ongoing (unfinished) doctoral studies (enrolments). In the event that false or incomplete information is provided in the application, the application and any subsequent admission decision shall be considered invalid.

Documents required for the application:

  • curriculum vitae (CV);

  • notarised copy of the diploma from the engineering or master’s degree programme;

  • notarised copy of the state examination certificate;

  • transcript of records from second-cycle higher education (or a transcript issued by the university study department – diploma supplement);

  • proof of payment of the admission procedure fee.
